"Man plans and God laughs," a favorite quote of mine that is so true.
We all experience growth, loss, sadness, happiness and everything else that comes with being alive. Every day holds a new adventure and a mystery and while we may think we know what we want and need, it turns out our paths aren't exactly up to us.
When I first heard that I got into SCAD, I was in the car with my two best friends, Gabi and Helen. We celebrated with pizza and planned the future - visits to each other's chosen colleges and all of those fun things. I remember how sad I was - I thought I should go to school in New York. Well, it's true what they say - Mom and Dad do know best.
As I packed my life up into my little VW Jetta in September of 2010, I had no idea what the next four years would bring.
Honestly, my attitude freshman year could have been different. I was very negative and wanted to be in a big city. When I realized SCAD was the place for me, I met friends that will be in my life forever. The rest of my time in Savannah would change my life.
Today, I graduate with the class of 2014 and some of the best, most talented people I have ever met.
Throughout our four years, we have cried, laughed, traveled, designed, experienced and so much more. We've taken a ridiculous amount of selfies, changed our hair color a few times (Talking to you Sarah and Kendall), and may have eaten one too many cheese plates.
The memories I've made with my art school friends and the things I've learned while at
SCAD are things I will treasure for the rest of my life.
I was always that one girl who never wanted the college experience. I did not care for football games or sororities or frat parties. I wanted a career and New York City. That girl is long gone. My college experience has been a dream come true and something I will carry in my heart forever. Regardless of what you want, or what you think you want, enjoy your time here on Earth. Surround yourself with people who help fill you with joy and help create wonderful memories. Life is short. We really aren't here for too long. Hug more, laugh more, share your pictures on Instagram and tell those you love that you love them.
Congratulations Class of 2014, we did it.
Below are pictures I've shared on Instagram since I started my Instagram account half way through my sophomore year at SCAD. From the annual SCAD Fashion Show to the art school Halloween experience, scroll through to get a taste of what it was like going to SCAD.
Thank you all so much for the memories. I now know what it means to be truly happy and I cannot wait to see what we do next.
